The book is always better. Except when it’s not.

The Princess Bride > The Princess Bride by William Goldman
The story in a story worked better in the film than in the book. Peter Faulk is much more fun than S Morgenstern.

Buttercup is annoying in both.

Fletch > Fletch by Gregory McDonald
In the movie he was Jane Doe, Ted Nugent and Dr. Rosenpenis. In the books he was just Fletch. Also, the books didn’t have Harold Faltermeyer.

Omega Man > I Am Legend by Richard Matheson
The book, unfortunately, did not star Charleton Heston. That’s not really Matheson’s fault. It’s just how it is. The book was better, however, than The Last Man on Earth.

Where Eagles Dare > Where Eagles Dare by Alistair MacLean
The movie had more twists than the book. And more turns. It had the same amount of eagles though. Which was zero. Zero eagles.

Note: Almost all MacLean movies were better than the books including both Navarone films.

All Bond Movies > Bond Books by Ian Fleming
All Bond movies were better than the source material. With the possible exception of the Daniel Craig films.

Hunt for Red October, Patriot Games, Clear and Present Danger > The Ryanverse by Tom Clancy
I tried every one of them and I just can’t do the Ryan books for some reason. Red Storm Rising was great. Without Remorse was excellent. Couldn’t do the Ryan books though. The movies I could finish.

Maximum Overdrive > Trucks by Stephen King
Mostly because of the AC/DC soundtrack and that cool ass Green Goblin semi.

The Bourne Sequels > The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum by Robert Ludlum
The Bourne Identity movie was neither better or worse than the book. It was different. Both the book and movie are fantastic. The sequels were much better than the books.

Planet of the Apes > La Planète des Singes by Pierre Boulle
It’s like the movie, but with all the conflict removed. Every bit of it. However, if you happen to read it in the original French, that’s impressive.

Strange Brew > Hamlet by William Shakespeare
Shakespeare didn’t have mind controlled hockey players, the Mutants of 2031 AD or even Max Von Sydow. It’s like he wasn’t even trying.

Did I miss any?
